LITERACY TASK FORCE OF NORTHERN WISCONSIN

Mission: The Literacy Task Force of Northern Wisconsin promotes, provides, and develops literacy opportunities to serve children, adults, and their families in North Central Wisconsin.
The mission is accomplished through our goals:

  1. To train area volunteer tutors and teachers to work with individuals with moderate to severe reading and spelling needs
  2. To raise funds for tuition scholarships, literacy training and resource materials for our trainees, parents, and persons of low literacy
  3. To raise public awareness about the impact of reading difficulties
  4. To connect parents/persons needing tutoring with resource persons
  5. To maintain an up-to-date base of resource persons
  6. To support partial tutoring costs for parents whose child may need extensive tutoring

Overview of Accomplishments 2004-2010

Started in June, 2004, as a group of concerned parents and professionals. Decision was made to focus on strong literacy tutor/training in Northern Wisconsin.

Beginning and Advance Level Training 2005-2010

  • 89 tutors have been trained in a sixty hour (2 week) beginning level training workshops trained
  • 34 tutors have received advanced level training
  • Over 110 children and adults have received tutoring

  • 2009 5 full and partial scholarships
  • 2008 9 full and partial scholarships
  • 2007 7 full and partial scholarships, 8 partial for advanced training
  • 2006 8 full and partial scholarships
